Xiao Ju Deng to launch new reading promotion program
    2017-09-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

“小桔灯”点亮十年后推出新阅读服务 力求少儿阅读服务无差别化

The well-known reading brand Xiao Ju Deng, or Little Orange Lamp, introduced its new reading promotion program at a seminar held at Duhai Book Bar in Yantian District Library on September 19. In attendance were headmasters and directors from 11 schools in Yantian District.

The seminar aimed to expand the influence of Xiao Ju Deng’s brand, promote reading among children and enhance cooperation between libraries and schools.

According to the seminar, Yantian District will implement Xiao Ju Deng promotion program (2018-2022) by organizing story-telling sessions, book fairs and seminars in an effort to encourage a love for reading among children and provide equally distributed children reading services across the district.

During the seminar, the person in charge of the program reviewed the implementation timetable of the past decade and introduced the new five-year program proposal as well as reviewed the interpretation of classics by top teachers and children reading Chinese classics seminars which were launched earlier this year.

Headmasters and directors of schools had a heated discussion on the reading promotion program and its activities and offered practical and creative suggestions. They advocated for the purchase of recommended reading books based on new-edition textbooks, compilation of children reading archives and reading maps and development of family studies.

The new reading promotion program will, in accordance with the principles of beneficial-for-all and equality, build reading service stations and expand the coverage of reading services to more communities and schools, particularly those with a lot of migrant children and children from impoverished families. The program is expected to set up two reading stations in communities and 10 in schools. For places which are not covered, book shelves will be erected to guide reading for 10 migrant and impoverished families.

The program will also organize tailored reading activities to improve children’s reading literacy and develop children’s reading interests, habits and capabilities.

The reading program is designed for children aged 6 to 12. Yantian District Library will give out reading books to students for free, organize students taking part in reading-for-points campaigns and reward “Reading Stars” each semester.

To stimulate children’s interests in reading, the library will also invite well-known professors, scholars and teachers from home and abroad to join in reading activities, aiming to encourage children to read classics, guide them through in-depth reading methods and teach students how to obtain knowledge from classics.

On April 23, 2007, Yantian District officially launched the Xiao Ju Deng reading promotion program. Over the past decade, Yantian District Library has firmly pushed forward the program through happy reading, growth reading, shared reading, classics reading and online reading.

The district has cooperated with schools to offer reading services and organize reading activities for children in the district and has completed two five-year programs from which nearly 100,000 children benefited.
