Futian student makers shine at maker festival
    2017-09-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

福田小创客军团深圳学生创客节载誉而归

The Futian “Little Makers Group” fetched five first prizes, eight second prizes, nine third prizes and four excellence awards in four competition categories at the 2017 Shenzhen Student Maker Festival, which was held on September 16 at Shenzhen Second Senior High School. The categories that students placed in include Makers Work Exhibition Review, Drone Cross Competition, Arduino Open-source Robotics Challenge and F1 on Campus.

Themed “create a new world, create a bright future,” The 2017 Shenzhen Student Maker Festival included an array of activities ranging from themed forums to student maker challenges, campus makers’ work shows, a campus makers road show and makers experiences, and served as a platform for primary and middle school students to exhibit their creative works.

Wei Xuelai and Cai Ziyi from Shenzhen Futian High School invented a tree-climbing machine that calculates gravity and stability. It is 3-D printed from light and solid aluminum alloy and PLA filament. The machine not only effectively trims the Cuban royal palm common to Shenzhen but also reduces damage that currently used tools often do to the trees. Their invention won the first prize in the group of maker projects.

Students from Liyuan Primary School invented a smart safety helmet that features functions such as autonomous riding lighting, steering lightening, SOS calling and GPS positioning, thus addressing pertinent safety issues for riders.

The Futuristic Agriculture Robot invented by students from Yuanling Primary School also won a first prize in the group of maker projects. It is able to walk through crop fields, extract weeds, and put haystacks in order.

Dong Zhen and Zhang Yuxin from Morning Sun Middle School won the first prize in the Drone Cross Competition.
