Five students from Shenzhen Institute of Technology will participate in the 44th WorldSkills Competition and compete in three events in Abu Dhabi in mid-October.

On the afternoon of September 27, Ai Xuefeng, vice mayor of Shenzhen, met with the Shenzhen players and coaches. At the meeting, Ai said that talents, especially highly skilled talents, are important for building Shenzhen into a modern, international and innovative city. He urged players and coaches to continue their persistent effort and strive to represent the exquisite craftsmanship of China to the world.

It has been reported that since 2016, Shenzhen Institute of Technology has actively mobilized students to participate in the tryouts at different levels for this year’s competition. After a strict selection for the national-level training team, the roster for the Chinese team has been finalized, among whom are five students from the institute. Hu Fan, Fang Yuezhi and Zheng Zonglin will respectively compete in jewelry processing, graphic design and 3-D digital game art. Meanwhile, Cai Shengye and Yan Jiamin will be the backup players for 3-D digital game art and graphic design.

At the 43rd WorldSkills Competition held in Brazil in 2015, Ma Weixin, a student from Shenzhen Institute of Technology, won the excellence prize in graphic design. This was the first time that a contestant from Shenzhen had entered the competition and won an award.

The WorldSkills Competition, known as the Skills Olympics, is the largest and most influential professional skills competition in the world. It is organized by WorldSkills International in every two years. At present, the competition is divided into six major categories, a total of more than 50 events. Since 2011, China has consecutively participated in the event and reaped fruitful results, winning five golds, eight silvers, seven bronzes and 29 excellence prizes.
