The tent for stressed office workers
    2017-11-01  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

An inventor has created a US$100 pod that blocks 99 percent of outside light to help people escape the pressure of modern society.

The Pause Pod is a blacked-out* 1.2m tent with an extendable leg compartment which lets busy people switch off by sitting or lying down in it.

Add-ons*, which cost US$25 extra each, include a starry sky that can be fixed to the roof and a compartment for a tablet so users can watch TV while taking a break.

The pod, which takes just 10 seconds to pop up, is designed for use in the home but it can be taken to the office or used outdoors.

Its inventors, based in Gothenburg, Sweden, say it shuts out almost all external light, allowing for a completely private environment, free of distractions*.

Co-founder Adam Mikkelsen said the initial concept for the pod arose from a discussion with a friend about the pressure of modern society.

Mikkelsen launched crowd-funding* campaigns on Kickstarter and Indiegogo to raise money to bring the tent into production. The Pause Pod has raised more than US$140,000 across the two platforms from backers keen to see the project become a reality.

The Pause Pod has drawn criticism online, with critics suggesting it is not a worthy product.

In response to the negative comments, Mikkelsen said he is confident in the future of the Pause Pod and will continue developing further add-ons to enhance the user experience.
