Google has extended a facility launched with their flagship Pixel 2 smartphones that lets Google Assistant find out song names for you.

Any device equipped with the smart voice-activated* aide will soon be able to take advantage of the feature, which is similar to the popular Shazam app.

The update began rolling out to Android devices in recent days, although it does not yet appear to be available universally. It is expected to continue to spread in the coming weeks.

Google Assistant was initially unveiled last summer, and since that time it has been unable to identify songs, unlike its predecessor, Google voice search. To activate the feature, users first need to trigger the assistant by saying “OK Google” or “Hey Google.”

Once the assistant is active, you can ask “What song is playing” or “What song is this.” Google Assistant will then display information about the song, the artist and its lyrics, as well as links to Google search results, YouTube, Google Play Music and Spotify.

If the active assistant hears the song before you ask the question, it will bring up a button called “What’s this song” which you can press for more information.

If you are playing a song through your headphones or on another device with Spotify Connect, asking what song is playing will automatically pull up this information without having to listen out for the song that is playing. (SD-Agencies)
