HKU & University of Cambridge launch joint program in SZ
    2017-12-06  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

港大剑桥本科联合培育未来工程人才

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) officially launched a joint program, collaborating with the University of Cambridge, that will recruit 10 to 20 students each year from the Chinese mainland for a five-year program.

Students who are selected to join the five-year program for Engineering and Computer Science will first complete a two-year study at the Faculty of Engineering in HKU and then will move on to a three-year program combining bachelor’s- and master’s-level courses at the University of Cambridge in Britain after passing a qualification exam.

Once completing the five-year study, students will be granted a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Cambridge as well as a bachelor’s degree from HKU.

Also, the graduates will be automatically granted certificates from professional engineering institutions on the Chinese mainland as well as in Hong Kong and Britain, which will prove their credibility for pursuing further education and gaining higher engineering qualifications.

The online application system has already been activated on HKU’s official website. Students taking the National College Entrance Exam next year can lodge their application this month. Face-to-face interviews will be arranged at HKU in January and February of 2018.

Another path for applying to study opportunities at the University of Cambridge is to apply for the program after being accepted into HKU’s Faculty of Engineering.

It was reported that the two universities had rolled out a pilot program that recommends engineering students at HKU to further their study at the U.K. university.

A good number of students from the Chinese mainland, including students from Shenzhen, took part in the pilot program and achieved exceptionally good marks at both universities.
