Binoche to get Goteborg lifetime achievement honor
    2018-01-05  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

FRENCH actress Juliette Binoche will receive the lifetime achievement honor of the Goteborg Film Festival, the honorary Dragon Award.

Binoche, who has been a fixture on the European and Hollywood scene for decades, has appeared in more than 70 films, among them “The Unbearable Lightness of Being,” “Three Colors: Blue” and “The English Patient,” the latter winning her an Academy Award for best supporting actress.

Announcing the honor, Goteborg’s artistic director Jonas Holmberg called Binoche “one of the most influential actors of our time,” whose “iconic performances have helped shape modern European film history.”

Binoche will attend the Goteborg festival Feb. 2-4 and will receive her honorary Dragon Award at the gala ceremony Feb. 3. She will also take part in a master class. The festival will screen a retrospective of her work.

Binoche said she hoped the award wasn’t meant to be taken “too serious.”

“I take it as a wink, a tap on the shoulder or even a hug!,” the actress said in a statement. “I feel very lucky doing what I’m doing. I still have the same passion, still have a lot to learn. The joy I’m sharing on the sets are gold to me! Being an actor is a work of service. The key for me, is to do it with full commitment!”

Binoche recently appeared alongside Scarlett Johansson in “Ghost in the Shell” and in Claire Denis’ Cannes Directors Fortnight entry “Let the Sun Shine In.”

Joining Binoche in Goteborg will be Swedish film star Alicia Vikander, who will be honored with the festival’s Nordic honorary Dragon Award.
