SHENZHEN University and Bao’an District Government inked deals Tuesday to jointly build a campus for the university’s Health Science Center and an affiliated stomatological hospital in Bao’an.

Tuesday’s signing ceremony was witnessed by major government officials from Bao’an and leaders of Shenzhen University.

Based on the deals inked, the Bao’an District Government will give funds to build the university’s Bao’an campus. When the campus is completed, the Health Science Center, currently located in Nanshan District, will move its major departments, including administrative and teaching departments, to Bao’an.

It is expected that the Health Science Center will be expanded in a decade to have 5,000 students studying at the Bao’an Campus, with about 3,500 undergraduate students and approximately 1,500 students in master’s degree programs.

In the future, the two parties will work together to upgrade the medical research level of Shenzhen University with the aim of reaching the highest level in the city.

In the next 10 years, Shenzhen University envisions its medical education for biomedical engineering to be ranked in the country’s top 10, while basic and clinical medicine reaches the top 20. And it aims to become one of the country’s best medical schools by 2025.

Li Qingquan, president of Shenzhen University, said that the university and Bao’an District had been in talks for a long time about how to better use the advantages of the university to help improve local medical services. At the same time, Li said the cooperation project will also help expand the university and provide research and job opportunities for its medical students.

The Party chief of Bao’an District, Yao Ren, said it is a win-win cooperation, since Shenzhen University will get a much larger space to develop, and the medical services in Bao’an District will be able to better meet its residents’ needs.
