Step back from the brink
    2018-01-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

The moderates’ proposal — to link a three-week extension of government funding to the consideration of an immigration bill in the Senate — prompted Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to announce that he would be willing to consider debating various immigration bills on the floor in mid- to late February if an agreement on immigration was not otherwise reached before then by party leaders.

“Let’s step back from the brink,” he said. “Let’s stop victimizing the American people and get back to work on their behalf.”

报道中的step back from the brink就是“从危险的边缘退回来”,例如:

Kim Jong-un’s decision to step back from the brink has been welcomed as a sign of easing tensions in the crisis over North Korea.
