Dog registration available on WeChat
    2018-01-31  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A HANDY service on WeChat for applying for permits to keep dogs was officially put online by the Shenzhen Municipal Urban Management Bureau on Monday.

Dog owners who have not yet registered their pets can follow the public WeChat account “美丽深圳”(“Beautiful Shenzhen”) for access to the service, Daily Sunshine reported yesterday. However, there is no English version of the account at the moment.

The city enacted regulations on keeping dogs July 1, 2006. According to the rules, dog keepers must register their dogs with the district-level authorities. No organization or individual is allowed to keep dogs without registration.

Upon entering the public WeChat account, the registration page can be accessed by clicking the button on the right that reads, “优优服务” and then “养犬服务.” On the registration page, residents are required to fill in information about themselves and their dogs.

After submitting the information, applicants will receive an application number with which they can check the progress of their applications. When the certificates are ready, applicants can choose to claim the certificates in person or receive them by mail.

In addition, according to a staffer from the urban management bureau, another convenient service for dog keepers is the locating function that can display the nearest stations where dog owners can register and vaccinate their dogs using GPS.

To make sure the online platform functions smoothly, the bureau organized a training Monday for over 100 staffers from all levels of the dog registration offices on rules and skills for using the online platform.

Through the WeChat account, staffers from the registration stations can collect applications in just a few seconds, which greatly streamlines the procedure and saves time, according to the report.

Besides the registration and locating services, the platform also has a special section that introduces knowledge about keeping dogs. Residents can also register to join activities, lectures and volunteer campaigns related to keeping dogs on that section. (Zhang Qian)
