Usually it’s parents who read bedtime stories to their children at night, but at the final round of the first Children Story Competition of Shenzhen held on January 9, a total of 20 elementary school students from different age groups read and even acted out stories to the audience, bringing them a montage of fascinating tales.

After the friendly competition, Li Fu from Pingshan Central Elementary School and Han Xinyi from Xili Elementary School won the first prizes for the younger age group and the older age group respectively, and Liu Xiyue from Xuefu Elementary School and Yin Qishan from Hongya Elementary School won the best creative awards for the younger age group and the older age group respectively. Apart from the two awards, other presenters won the most popular contestant award, the most popular school award, the best organization award and excellence award.

To win the hearts of the audience, Dai Linni from the younger age group and his father Feng Yulu acted out their stories “Beautiful Rooster” and “Fox Dad and Duck Son” by dressing up like the animals in the stories.

“The Story About Reading” presented by Yin Qishan from the older age group struck a responsive chord amongst the audience and parents who value the quality time spent with their children.

The winner of excellence award, Feng Bingbing from Yangguang Elementary School, said: “Although I only ranked at 11th place, I will continue working hard on my storytelling skills.”

Under the guidance of Shenzhen Education Society and co-hosted by sznews.com, the Shenzhen branch of Bank of China and Shenzhen Poly Theater, the competition aims to advocate parent-child reading and stimulate students’ interests in reading.

Since the competition submission period first launched on November 30 last year, it has drawn wide attention and received entries from over 10,000 students from campuses, the public and special divisions.
