奶茶自由
    2018-02-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

“奶茶” means “milk tea,” and “自由” means “freedom, independence.” Borrowing from the concept “financial independence,” which means “having enough wealth to live on without working,” Chinese netizens recently came up with a scale to measure a woman’s financial status. In the six different stages, one feels free to spend on cups of milk tea, cherries (a rather expensive fruit), lipsticks, nights at a good hotel, luxury handbags or apartments.

Example:

A: 放假你去哪里玩?

Fàngjià nǐ qù nǎlǐ wán?

Where are you planning to spend the holiday?

B: 哪儿也不去。我现在的收入刚刚实现奶茶自由,没钱出门旅游。

Nǎr yě bú qù 。Wǒ xiànzài de shōurù gānggāng shíxiàn nǎichá zìyóu ,méi qián chūmén lǚyóu 。

I’m not traveling. My current income only assures the freedom to buy cups of milk tea, and I don’t have extra money to spend on tours.
