QR codes for boarding

THE number of passengers using QR codes for security checks and boarding services at the Shenzhen airport has reached 110,000 since the service was launched in September last year.

The QR code service has been very popular at the airport leading up to this Spring Festival transport season for its usability and time efficiency, according to a release of China Southern Airlines, which has seen 40,000 passengers use the service in the past months.

Flowers arrive

A TOTAL of 6 tons of flowers, mainly from Yunnan Province, were transported by air on China Southern Airlines on Sunday for Valentine’s Day, which falls today.

Since Feb.1, 35 tons of flowers have been transported from Kunming to Shenzhen by China Southern flights for the holiday season.

Three-time DUI

A DRIVER surnamed Liu faces a jail term of up to six months for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI).

Liu drove his car into a greenery belt on Shennan Boulevard while making a U-turn near Skyworth Building in Nanshan District. Tests showed his alcohol content reached 130 mg per 100 ml.

Records show Liu has been punished two times before, in 2013 and 2017, for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Sponge city projects

SHENZHEN completed 422 sponge city projects covering an area of 39.1 square kilometers in 2017, exceeding the annual target by 14 percent, according to an assessment meeting on government performance in sponge city construction.

The “sponge city” concept is a new urban development approach that aims to utilize rainwater and prevent flooding.

The meeting invited 15 experts from architecture, transportation, gardening, water resources and environmental protection, who worked in five teams, to evaluate efforts of government agencies in sponge city programs.

Xiangmi Park, Maozhou River treatment project, Shiyuan Village and Jinxiu Science and Technology Park have all been recognized as effective sponge city areas.

Free tour

MAGIC masters from all around the world are going to gather at Happy Valley for the opening of the Shenzhen International Magic Festival today. A total of more than 60 sanitation workers in Shenzhen have been invited to a free tour at the theme park and will be treated to dinner tonight.
