Taking part in an IHBB competition
    2018-02-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

In the middle of December, our Senior 1 and 2 students formed 4 teams, and we took part in the International History Bee and Bowl (IHBB) competition held by EIC Education.

IHBB is an American competition attended by students from all over the world. It was very cold that day, but all of us were excited and energetic.

The competition was ranked by the total points of four rounds. In each round, two teams got points through vying to answer different questions first about international history. In the first round, we challenged Team Vanke D. They were a strong team, and they had really gotten ready for this competition. In that round, the questions were so difficult that my teammates and I felt puzzled and upset. As a result, of course, we lost. The score was twenty to seventy.

In the second round, we went up against Team Vanke C. I can’t even begin to describe my feelings when we met another Vanke team! This team was even stronger than Team D, and a similar situation happened: we lost again! This time we didn’t even score any points.

The third round was in the afternoon. We, Team Xin’an D, faced our friends Team Xin’an C.

The questions were simpler this time, so my captain and I started to try answering some questions. Fortunately, we guessed some of them correctly, and finally we won our first victory. We laughed, and we cheered. How excited we were!

Since it was an American competition that many top American and international students took part in, it was difficult for us. What’s more, some of our opponents had prepared for it for a long time and had taken part in it a few times before. Although we didn’t win any awards, we still learned a lot.

We realized the importance of teamwork, and tried to face failures with a calm state of mind. I did my best, so there’s nothing to regret. It was really a meaningful and memorable experience for me.
