SZ ‘Angels of Peace’ at UN headquarters
    2018-02-28  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A group of people from Shenzhen, who were dubbed “Angels of Peace” and consisted of artists, association presidents, teachers, students and enterprise representatives, attended a peace-themed awards ceremony at the United Nations headquarters on February 9 during their winter camp, which lasted from February 7 to 13 in the United States.

In attendance at the event, which was held by the organizing committee of the eighth World Children Calling for Peace: “The Flag of Peace,” were Sherrill Kazan, president of the World Council of Peoples for the United Nations and Ma Jianguo, head of the U.N. bureau of Xinhua News Agency, who presented the awards to the Angels of Peace and other peace ambassadors.

Kazan handed out medals and certificates of Angles of Peace to students including Li Jiahong, Sun Wenjing, Li Xinge, Xu Yuqing, Zhang Yujing and Liu Qingyu.

As 2018 marks the 73rd anniversary of the United Nations and the 33rd anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Peace at the UN General Assembly, the eighth World Children Calling for Peace was approved by the Ministry of Culture of China and was jointly carried out by the China Association for Promoting Children’s Culture and Art, UN Agencies in China and other institutes.

The Guangdong committee officially initiated the peace-themed series of events on September 30, 2017, first launching a painting competition online via the Xiangyikui education service platform. Altogether, more than 10,000 artworks from over 500 schools in over 10 countries including the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, France, Britain and China were submitted.

A total of 193 artworks earned prizes and a number of peace ambassadors, peace messengers and Angels of Peace were recognized. The Xiangyikui educational services platform and the Shenzhen Nanshan Arts and Sciences Experimental School were awarded the “World Peace Online Education Demonstration Base” title.
