Train trip to Chongqing cut to 12.5 hours
    2018-03-01  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE new-generation bullet train, “Fuxing,” which boasts a top speed of 400 kilometers per hour, was put into service on the railway between Shenzhen and Chongqing, cutting a single trip between the two cities to 12 hours and 36 minutes.

Train G1314, the first Fuxing train between the two cities, left Chongqing in Southwest China at 7:49 a.m. Tuesday. It passed through 20 cities in Chongqing Municipality and Hubei, Hunan and Guangdong provinces and arrived at Shenzhen North Railway Station at around 8:25 p.m.

Fuxing, which means rejuvenation, is the first bullet train designed and manufactured by Chinese engineers without help from the West.

Unlike the Harmony train, the Fuxing train can reach a speed of 350 kilometers per hour when it runs on the Beijing-Guangzhou and Wuhan-Guangzhou high-speed rails. The maximum speed of the Harmony train is 300 kilometers per hour on the Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed railway.

The ticket booking website, www.12306.cn, showed there are five trains running between Chongqing and Shenzhen. It takes 27 hours and 35 minutes to take the regular train K484 between the two cities.

The fares for a second-class and a first-class seat on the Fuxing train are 794.5 yuan (US$125) and 1,147.5 yuan, respectively. A business seat costs 2,431.5 yuan.

The super-fast bullet train is more comfortable as it provides free Wi-Fi coverage and more legroom in all of its carriages. Fuxing’s on-board monitoring system has been described as “sophisticated.” It can automatically slow the train in case of emergencies or abnormal conditions.
