Nanshan stands out in little academicians
    2018-03-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

南山区 “盛产” 中国少年科学院小院士

According to Nanshan Education Bureau, a total of 78 Shenzhen students were granted the title of “Little Academicians of the Chinese Youth Academy of Sciences” during the 13th National Little Academician Subject Defense event. Among them, 38 students are from Nanshan District.

Nanshan Experimental Education Group garnered the most titles with 12 of its students winning the Little Academician title, eight of whom are from Nantou Primary School. One student, Chen Honghan, was granted the “National Top 10 Little Academicians” title.

The little academicians underwent several rounds of assessment, including assertive defense, expert review and comprehensive scoring.

Nanshan students are particularly good at recognizing problems in daily life and putting forward a number of practical ideas, such as “paying attention to the garbage around you,” a “smart fan,” and a “smart healthy bag.”

The “smart short-sightedness prevention ruler,” made by national-title winner Chen, was inspired by a real life issue faced by students.

In 2016, 25 students in Nanshan were named Little Academicians, accounting for 45 percent of all Shenzhen-based winners.

As early as in 2014, Nanshan Education Bureau carried out a top-down reform and established the Shenzhen Nanshan Youth Creative Academy, which now serves as a platform for implementing creative education.

As of November 2017, Shenzhen Nanshan Youth Creative Academy has built 25 branch academies, 60 creative laboratories, over 100 student science clubs and over 150 creative education programs.
