Trump says he may open new Jerusalem embassy
    2018-03-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

U.S. President Donald Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday that he may want to visit Israel for the opening of a U.S. embassy in Jerusalem, a flash point in potential peace talks with the Palestinians.

“We’re going to have it built very quickly and very inexpensively,” Trump said to reporters before his meeting with Netanyahu.

While not making any specific commitments, Trump said, “we’re looking at coming ... If I can, I will. But I’ll be there again.”

Beyond the brief photo opportunity, neither Trump nor Netanyahu planned to speak after meetings expected to focus on potential peace talks with the Palestinians, disputes with Iran, and the civil war in Syria.

“We have, I would say, probably the best relationships right now with Israel that we ever had,” Trump said. “I think we’re as close now as maybe ever before.”

Netanyahu praised Trump for his Jerusalem decision: “Mr. president, this will be remembered by our people, throughout the ages. And as you just said, others talked about it; you did it.”

The Palestinians said Trump’s decision on Jerusalem renders the United States an unreliable actor in peace talks. (SD-Agencies)
