Intoxicated driver faces punishment
    2018-03-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A MAN was caught driving under the influence of alcohol by traffic police Monday.

According to a release on the official WeChat account of the traffic police Wednesday, the blood-alcohol content of the driver, surnamed Zeng, reached 299.69 mg per 100 ml, more than three times the legal limit of drunk driving in China, which is set at 80 mg per 100 ml.

On Monday afternoon, Zeng, who was heavily intoxicated, attempted to drive out of a parking lot in the Shajing business area in Bao’an District.

His car ran directly over the curb and got stuck with the front left wheel suspended in the air. A security guard tried to dissuade Zeng from accelerating backward due to safety concerns, but was rejected. Zeng also refused to get out of the car.

After receiving a report from the security guard, traffic police officers arrived at the scene and gave Zeng a breath test, which showed Zeng’s blood-alcohol content was 440 mg per 100 ml, possibly the highest this year, said the traffic police. He was later given a blood test.

Zeng was taken to a police station where he lied, saying he had begun drinking inside the car out of distress after his car got stuck, and later lied about whether he had drunk alcohol or not.

This is the second time that Zeng has been caught drunk driving. On March 26, 2015, Zeng was caught after an accident with a bike rider, who was slightly injured. Zeng was sent to prison for five months by Bao’an People’s Court for jeopardized driving as his blood-alcohol had reached 375.33 mg per 100 ml.
