Woman suffers fractures from seatbelt
    2018-03-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A SHENZHEN citizen, who was driving slowly and had her seatbelt fastened, was seriously injured in a car accident, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported Saturday.

The woman, surnamed Feng, bought the ERX5 SUV at a Roewe dealership in Luohu District on Feb. 14. On the morning of March 5, she and her husband ran into a bus while trying to merge into traffic near Lanyuan Bus Station in Nanshan District. Both of them had fastened their seatbelts, and they were only traveling at about 30 to 40 km/h.

When she regained consciousness, she found the car was emitting smoke and the air bag had opened. Strapped in by the seatbelt, she was unable to move her waist and collarbone, and she felt unbearable pain in her abdomen.

Feng was diagnosed with a closed injury to the abdomen, a perforation at the jejunum and fractures in the right side of her collarbone and a lumbar vertebrate. She has had three operations since being admitted to the hospital.

After receiving Feng’s complaint, the Shenzhen Consumer Council immediately carried out an investigation and contacted the car manufacturer, SAIC Motor. According to the automaker, the Roewe’s production is completely in accordance with national standards, and this is the first such case in the country.

Yang Qin, a lawmaker in Shenzhen, said Roewe needs to conduct a simulation experiment to restore related information. As many national standards are outdated, the manufacturer should set its production standards higher than the national standards, Yang said. (Zhang Yu)
