HK HIGH-SPEED TRAINS ON TEST RUN
    2018-04-02  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link started its first test run yesterday, without passengers, according to a report from Shenzhen TV, quoting sources from GZ-SZ-HK High-speed Railway Co.

During the test period, which will last for several months, the railway operator will arrange for multiple high-speed trains to run between Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.

The test will focus on control systems at railway stations, signal systems and the trains. In addition, drills to prepare for the operation of the rail will be conducted.

The high-speed trains are named Vibrant Express. The rail, which covers 142 kilometers between Guangzhou and Hong Kong, is scheduled to open in the third season of the year. It has nine stations and the trips from Kowloon to Futian high-speed train station and Shenzhen North Railway Station will be shortened to 14 minutes and 23 minutes, respectively.

During the initial stage, a total of 127 trains, including 13 trains to 15 major Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming, Guilin, Guiyang, Changsha, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Nanchang and Xiamen, will be put into operation.

The trains will depart from Hong Kong to Shenzhen North Railway Station at 15-minute intervals, and to Guangzhou South Railway Station at 30-minute intervals.

Tickets will be priced at HK$80, 90, 210 and 260 (US$10.19, 11.47, 26.76 and 33.13) to travel from Hong Kong to Futian high-speed train station, Shenzhen North Railway Station, Dongguan’s Humen Railway Station, and Guangzhou South Railway Station, respectively.

As a result of the arrangements, one-fourth of Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Station on the rail will be designated as a Mainland Port Area with related national laws applied. A one-stop border checkpoint is planned at West Kowloon Station.

The 26-kilometer line connects Hong Kong to the 25,000 kilometer national high-speed rail network. It will help consolidate Hong Kong’s place as a regional transportation hub and is expected to open up economic opportunities.(Han Ximin)
