Students speak at intl. conference

Four students from Shenzhen spoke at the four-day Montessori Model United Nations Conference (MMUN Conference) this year, which came to a close at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on March 17.

Among them are Hou Yibo, Xiong Xiaorui and Guo Yan of the Shenzhen Delegation of Montessori Model United Nations. Zhou Shaohan, another student from Shenzhen who represented the vice president of the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), gave a summary statement the same day.

Sixteen-year-old Wang Xinyu, an 11th grader at Meilin Middle School who was also the winner of the Girls’ Doubles at the Junior Grand Slam finals of the Australian Open with her partner Liang En-shuo from Taiwan earlier this year, has been selected as the spokesperson of her school.

Wang is the youngest Chinese player to participate in the Grand Slam main draw.

At the awards ceremony on March 19, Wang, also known as “little Sharapova” in Shenzhen, received a letter of appointment from Ma Ganfei, headmaster of Meilin Middle School.

The school inaugurated a tennis club on the day of the awards ceremony and many tennis lovers joined the club.

深圳信息技术学院教授获国家殊荣

A professor at the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology, Liu Jun, has been shortlisted for the third batch of elite teachers under a national project known as the Ten Thousand Talent Project that recognizes around 100 top teaching staff from around the nation each year.

Five teachers from higher education institutions in Guangdong Province were selected for this year’s list.

The national project awards the best teachers in China based on the candidates’ teaching abilities and contributions to academia. Each of the selected teachers will receive a special fund of 500,000 yuan (US$79,525) as a reward.

At the recent Cyprus National Resources Forum in Guangdong, officials from the Cyprus-Guangdong Association of Commerce said that Huawei Technologies (Cyprus) Co. Ltd. has reached an agreement with the University of Cyprus (UCY) on talents development, and now undergraduate students of UCY have the chance to participate in Huawei’s yearly internship program and undergo training in Huawei’s labs in Shenzhen.
