Poisoned ex-Russian spy’s pets have starved to death
    2018-04-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE poisoning of a former Russian spy claimed its first fatalities — the operative’s beloved cat and two guinea pigs.

The animals starved to death inside the British home of former double agent Sergei Skripal who, along with his 33-year-old daughter Yulia, are fighting for their lives, The Sun newspaper reported Thursday.

The British Government said it discovered Skripal’s two guinea pigs dead inside his Wiltshire home and his black Persian cat, Nash Van Drake, was in such bad shape, it had to be put to sleep, the report said.

Remains of all three animals were incinerated just in case there was any contamination threat from the deadly nerve agent Novichok.

“When a vet was able to access the property, two guinea pigs had sadly died. A cat was also found in a distressed state and a decision was taken by a veterinary surgeon to euthanize the animal to alleviate its suffering,” according to a government statement in the Mirror. “This decision was taken in the best interests of the animal and its welfare.”(SD-Agencies)
