My summer camp
    2018-04-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Chen Shunshun, Class 5, Grade 5, Nanshan Foreign Languages School Instructed by Nathan

深圳市南山区南山外国语(集团)学府第二小学 五(5)班 陈顺舜 指导老师:Nathan

In the summer of 2017, I went to an U.S. summer camp. It is called Cub Creek Animal and Science Camp. It is the best camp in the world! I spent the happiest two weeks of my life there. When I think of it now all that comes to mind are happy memories filled with fun and laughter.

On the first day, I was too shy to talk to others. I was the only Chinese kid in my dorm. I was so afraid to speak English to the other campers. I really wished there were some Chinese girls in my dorm. I felt a bit homesick. However on the first night, one of my roommates, Katy, a very beautiful and outgoing girl, introduced herself to me and invited me with her to the other room to meet her friends. They were all very nice and friendly. I quickly became friends with Katy. She often asked me questions about Chinese school, fun things to do in China and she also told me about her favorite Chinese restaurant. I asked her many questions also, such as who her favorite singer is and what kind of music she likes.

We sang together and played together. Anytime I had trouble with something she would try her best to help me. Even now, I still think about her quite often. She is such a nice friend. I really miss her.

My favorite class at camp was candy making. We learned how to make candy, cakes and chocolate. Those are my favorite foods. And I can even make them by myself now! The best part of this class was that we could eat everything we made! Those were the best snacks I have ever eaten. Maybe the reason they tasted so wonderful is because we were the people who made them.

I had such a great time at the U.S. summer camp because I got to make new friends! On some nights we all went hiking and the stars in the sky shined brightly and happily. We also camped outside in tents once a week. We roasted food at a bonfire and played games and learned how to sing many camp songs. It was truly an unforgettable experience and I am looking forward to going to the camp again this summer!
