A TOTAL of 23 winning projects in the finals of the professional and industry contests earlier this week will compete for the 1.4-million-yuan (US$222,000) top award at the final of the Second China (Shenzhen) Innovation & Entrepreneurship International Competition to be held in Longgang District today, sources from Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau said.

On Monday and Tuesday, 135 projects from preliminaries in nine cities in eight countries attended the professional contest and industry contest separately held in Longgang, Bao’an and Pingshan districts.

The 45 projects in the professional contest covered the artificial intelligence, anti-cancer technology and IoT fields. The 90 projects in the industry contest covered information technology, biology and life science, new materials, Internet and advanced manufacturing sectors.

At the industry contest in Longgang District on Tuesday, 34 projects from eight countries competed in the categories of advanced manufacturing, Internet and mobile Internet. After rounds of competition, a project from Silicon Valley, the United States, featuring a wearable robot that helps elderly people walk and rehab, won the first prize in the category of manufacturing and another project from Silicon Valley, Aeyesafe, won the first prize in the category of mobile Internet. Aeyesafe is a thermal and sound monitoring system, which mainly serves elderly people and those who live alone.

At the professional contest in Bao’an on Monday, Echo-Ring, a new wireless technology designed specifically for Industry 4.0 and IoT real-time communications, took home the first prize.

At the industry contest in Pingshan, 50 projects competed for the top six places in the categories of biological and life science, new materials and energy.

The project, Magnetic Insight, from Silicon Valley, won the first prize in the biology and life science category, and the Aerospec Technologies project from Boston won the first prize in new materials and energy.

Earlier in the professional contest, a project from Silicon Valley, NanoX and its Applications in Digital Radiography, stood out from the 15 other projects and won the first prize in the anti-cancer category.

The winners in the final being held today will be awarded at the opening of the Conference on International Exchange of Professionals on Saturday at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center.

More than 1,400 contestants signed up for the preliminary contests this year, which were held in Boston, Stockholm, Sydney, Toronto, Berlin, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Silicon Valley and London in March.
