罗湖百仕达小学大力推广阅读 Xiong Youping, headmaster of Sinolink Primary School in Shenzhen, shared his experiences in promoting reading among students at the recent Weekly One-hour Headmaster Study Meeting held at the school, which was attended by over 50 headmasters from both public and private primary schools. In his speech, which is titled “Adding Color to School With Reading,” Xiong said that each Grade 2 student in his school is able to read 5 million characters, while according to the national curriculum standards, grade one and two students should be able to read 50,000 characters. Sinolink Primary School is one of the earliest schools in China to promote reading courses on its campus. Xiong introduced the array of early literacy measures the school has adopted. In creating a reading environment, the school opened a library modeled after literary classic “Alice in Wonderland.” The school has also joined the Ivy League Cooperation Plan with Shenzhen Children’s Library, which allows it to partake in the free interlibrary system with Shenzhen Children’s Library. Currently, the school library houses nearly 30,000 books, 45 percent of which are English books. In terms of reading courses, the school has created a reading course themed “children-oriented, reading as a focus” which includes verse recitation, selected reading, novel reading and reading in libraries. At the same time, the school encourages teachers and parents to join the reading campaign, requiring parents to spend no less than 30 minutes every day reading with their kids. Wang Shuifa, head of the Luohu Education Bureau, said that the school’s reading model has a top-down design. The school blends reading into every part of the teaching process, thereby forming a dynamic reading ecosystem. (Chen Xiaochun) |
