An object that means a lot to me
    2018-04-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Tyerra Rooffener

In my life there are many things that matter a lot to me, but the object that matters the most to me is my piano. It may just sound like a normal piano, but trust me, there is a good memory behind it.

So it all started when we moved to the U.S. from China and I had to leave Melody behind. (If you didn’t know, Melody was what I named my old piano.)

Melody was the prettiest piano I had ever seen — she had a black cover with golden lines neatly traced around the sides of her — but when we moved we had to leave her behind. I loved that piano so much that I’m pretty sure I cried over it a few times.

And the saddest part was when we moved back to the U.S. we didn’t have the budget to buy a piano right away. I was super sad, until a month or so later when my aunt Sandy was helping us move. I started talking to her about me missing my piano. I mainly talked to her because she is an awesome pianist and I have a lot of things in common with her. I could tell that when we were talking she had a sorrowful look on her face as if she was thinking about something or making a decision in her head. After a few more hours of moving, I was called to the dining room by my family to have a talk. I still remember how nervous I was because I thought I was getting in trouble or something. But when I got in the dining room all my family members were there. My aunt Sandy started talking. She said she heard me babbling about how I missed my old piano and how I wished I had a new piano to play right now.

She said that there was a voice inside her head that was telling her to give me her piano. She told me that the piano she wanted to give me is about 30 years old and my grandma helped pay for it because at the time my aunt Sandy didn’t have enough money to buy a piano. The thought of my grandma just brought tears to my eyes because she passed away three years ago and I still miss her all the time. But at the end aunt Sandy said that I could come to her house sometime and pick up the piano. I was super happy and excited and very grateful, because I got another piano and I would be able to practice again. So after a few more weeks we got the piano and I have to admit it is a beautiful piano. It has a brown cover with black stripes traced onto the sides of it. So that’s the story of how I got my piano.

My piano that I have now is the most meaningful object I own, because every time I play it, it brings back memories of my grandma to me. It helps me remember how kind my aunt Sandy was to give me that piano. But most of all, every time I play that piano it reminds me of my loving family, and that is why that piano is the most important object I own.
