Another successful test by Russian film

Russian film “Ice” is not only romantic but also motivational. It sings the praiser of true love and the Olympic spirit. If I went to use one word to make a comment on it, I would say “conservative.”

“Ice” easily reminds people of “Dragons,” the latest great achievement in Russian film. “Dragons” received an unexpected welcome in the international market. I regard “Ice” as another attempt of Russian films to test the waters of the international market. We can see this from various aspects of the film.

From the script, we can see “Ice” is a love story, which is a popular theme all over the world, especially for female audiences. To ensure its success, it adds another element — the striving spirit of sports, which is suitable for people of all ages.

From the cast, we can find that the heroine is not a typical Russian beauty, because she is not entirely in accordance with popular Russian aesthetics. She makes me think of Audrey Hepburn, who resonated with global aesthetics more than that of the United States.

Compared to Nina Kaptsova, chief dancer at Bolshoi Theater who is a typical Russian beauty with long legs and an angular face, Darya Tartasova, the actress who plays as the heroine, is more likely to be an international beauty who may be widely accepted by most countries in the world.

From the filmmaking, “Ice” consists of a lot of musical elements. As we all know, music is the language of the world. Using music properly can develop an emotional contagion for the audience. And the director is good at changing hues to show different scenes.

For instance, when the heroine feels nervous, the hue is red. When they fall in love, he uses a warm tone. When they break up, he uses a cold tone.

Now it seems that the conservative test of waters by the Russian film industry is a great success. People throughout the world seem to have accepted the pink mood of Russia, which is always regarded as a fighting nation.

It could also be an example for Chinese film industry to follow in exploring the international market.
