The things I like about China
    2018-05-02  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

As a person who grew up in the very south of China, my opinion of this big country is that it is hot, crowded, and has lots of coasts and beautiful beaches. Since becoming a middle school student, my impression on China has changed recently, and I am getting more focused on the whole of China, not only Shenzhen. At this time, I’ve realized what a lovely country China is.

I have many reasons why I love China so much. Here are some of them. First of all, China has a 5,000-year and terrific history. I like to read history books in my spare time, not only just to see what happened many years ago, but because we can learn a lot from history. Emperor Li Shimin of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) once said, “With a bronze mirror, one can see whether he is properly attired; with history as a mirror, one can understand the rise and fall of a nation; with men as a mirror, one can see whether he is right or wrong. Now I’ve lost my faithful mirror by the death of Weizheng (a famous politician of his reign).” One of my favorite people in Chinese history is Li Bai, an established poet who lived in the Tang Dynasty. I love his poetry, which makes me feel relaxed and imagine things.

Second comes my favorite part — food, desserts and drink! In Guangdong Province, we have a type of eating habit called (having) dim sum. This is when people go to restaurants and tea is the most important component. You can’t miss it. My favorite part of the dim sum ritual is the desserts. Desserts in China are very sweet and I like sweet food. Also, I like noodles very much. I’ve eaten many kinds of noodles from various parts of China, for example the noodls from Shaanxi Province and from Northeast China. They smell really good and have a smooth and delicious taste. There’s another food I like very much — the dumpling! The history of dumpling is really long. It has been one of the favorite dishes of Chinese people for centuries, especially during the Spring Festival, when we make dumplings by ourselves! They give us good taste and also good memories with relatives and friends.

Third, life is very convenient in China with the quick development of technology. Nowadays, we don’t need to bring a lot of things with us, while the only thing you need to bring is your mobile phone. If you need any transportation, you can easily scan the QR code on a shared bike or at the Metro entrance. Then you will be charged on your mobile phone! It works not only for transportation, but also about almost anything you want to buy. In Shenzhen, the place I call hometown, things in shops can all be paid with WeChat or Alipay. As you could have guessed, people’s lives have been changing in China. I’m really proud to be a part of this convenient society.

There’s another thing I like — free Wi-Fi everywhere. I’m a junior student and my mobile phone needs Wi-Fi very much because I don’t have 4G service. I used to worry about how I could chat with my friends and parents when I was outside, but this problem seems to have come to an end. You can just go inside a little coffee shop or a hotel — there is free Wi-Fi everywhere!

Fourth, there are many beautiful mountains and rivers in China. There’s a proverb that says, “East or West, Guilin’s landscape is the best.” Guilin is famous for its pure, green water and the strange shapes of the mountains. The magic of that scenery is breathtaking.

Because of the history, the food, the technology and the beautiful scenery in China, I like this country very much. I’m really proud of being a Chinese! I really hope that China can be stronger so that one day, it’s not only our favorite country, but also the favorite country of foreigners.
