Joint research

SUSTECH will set up an Intelligent Transport Research Center in cooperation with Shenzhen Bus Group and Shenzhen Haylion Technologies Co., according to an agreement signed last week.

Haylion will donate 15 million yuan (US$2.36 million) to the university’s foundation for the construction of the research center, which is run by the university’s computer science and engineering department.

The center will focus its research on intelligent positioning, collaborative awareness, intelligent decision-making and planning, intelligent communication and energy management. It will solve key technical issues in driverless driving and the application of driverless technologies in public transport.

Man detained

A MAN was detained for five days for carrying an air rifle and pellets on a train to his hometown.

The man, surnamed Ding, 43, bought the rifle, steel pellets and arrows via WeChat. As a fan of fishing, Ding wanted to take them back to his hometown in Shaanxi Province, so he disassembled the gun and hid it in his luggage.

The safety inspectors at Shenzhen Railway Station found the luggage suspicious and reported it to police. Police found the rifle, 151 pellets and nine arrows in the luggage.

Bus route divided

THE 58-km bus route No. 812 was divided into two sections, M546 and M547, on Saturday.

The route ran from Biling Bus Terminal in Pingshan to Minle Metro Station in Long-hua, covering three districts and taking more than two hours for a single trip.

M546 links the Biling terminal with Universiade Metro Station, and M547 links the terminal at Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology in Longgang District and Minle Metro Station.

The two routes have adopted a flat fare of 3 yuan for a single trip.
