Accident

FILMMAKER Carlos Carvalho has died after an encounter with a giraffe during a film shoot in South Africa, the South African crew agency CallaCrew announced Saturday.

“It is with a very sad heart that we have to announce the passing of Carlos Carvalho, one of our favorite DOPs,” the agency posted on Facebook. “Carlos was filming a feature at Glen Afric and had a fatal run in with a giraffe on set. He was flown to Milpark Hospital but succumbed to his injuries 20:50 last night.” The South African filmmaker was known for his cinematography work on 2013’s “The Forgotten Kingdom,” for which he won the best cinematography prize at the African Movie Academy Awards.

Criticism

GIGI HADID took to Instagram to address the criticism she is facing over her latest Vogue cover.

Vogue Italia posted on Instagram the cover photo for the May issue and in it, Hadid appears in a darker skin tone that have some social media users calling her out for “blackfacing.”

“Please understand that my control of a shoot 1. is non- existent in terms of creative direction. 2. ends completely when I leave set, and anything done to a photo in post is out of my control fully,” she said. Hadid appears to place the blame squarely on Vogue Italia, which has faced similar accusations of blackface and cultural appropriation in the past.

Award

THE Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival on Friday gave the top jury prize for best international feature documentary to “We Could Be Heroes,” a Moroccan film from director Hind Bensari about Paralympian Azzedine Nouiri.

The feature, which had its world premiere at Hot Docs, portrays Nouiri, the two-time Paralympic gold medalist in the seated shot put who found himself abandoned by his national sports federation and battling for respect and equal rights as he prepared for the 2016 Rio Games.

Lawsuit

ON the heels of an explosive Washington Post report that claims more than two dozen women have accused him of sexual misconduct, Charlie Rose and CBS are being sued by three women who allege they were harassed by the ousted host.

Katherine Brooks Harris, Sydney McNeal and Chelsea Wei are suing Rose and the network alleging “blatant and repeated sexual harassment” and unlawful retaliation, according to the complaint filed Friday in New York state court.
