On December 4, 2017, there was a journalist training meeting held in the junior middle school hosted by Tang Ying, chief editor of our school English newspaper. Journalists of junior 1 and 2 attended it. The audience listened attentively and answered the teacher’s questions actively. We enjoyed the meeting and have learned a lot from it.

In the beginning, a few Junior 3 students introduced their experience of being a newspaper reporter. Their experiences inspired us greatly. Our teacher introduced the school English newspaper and our newspaper club. Our newspaper has been stored by quite a few famous libraries, such as Capital Library, Guangdong Zhongshan Library, Guangzhou Library, Guangzhou Teenager, and Children Library and Shenzhen Library. Moreover, many celebrities have written articles for it.

Our teacher said reading and writing English articles is a good way to improve our English levels. As we always make mistakes when we write articles, we will become more proficient learners by correcting the mistakes. She gave each of the participants a copy of the Budding Writers page from the Shenzhen Daily, in which two students from our school got their articles published.

She led us to read and enjoy the two articles to learn how to write a good English composition that should be well-structured with paragraphs, a variety of good sentences and advanced words. At the same time, she said that it is very easy for us to write a passage on a topic or an experience of ourselves.

What impressed me most is that she pointed out our writing problems. Our articles are too short without detailed description of the event and feelings. We don’t clarify our thoughts clearly in our compositions.

For example, quite often, an article is not coherent. It is because the writer thinks he or she has expressed himself or herself clearly and other people can understand him or her, but actually the readers can’t. Therefore, we should describe everything clearly.

Finally, she showed us a sample article to tell us the requirements of writing an article for our newspaper. The most important was that she told us how to check and revise our article and correct the mistakes in it after we write one.
