GENERAL AVIATION AIRPORT PLANNED IN LONGHUA DISTRICT
    2018-05-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A NEW airport for general aviation will be built in Guanlan, Longhua District, according to a plan released by Shenzhen Planning Land and Resources Commission on its official website Wednesday.

The Zhangkengjing airport, scheduled to cover 291,990 square meters, will be located in the area enclosed by Pinglong Road, Qingping Expressway, Jihe Expressway and Banlan Boulevard, the plan showed.

The flight operation area and fuel depot area, covering 261,235 square meters in total, will be within the Shenzhen basic ecological control line. The 30,755-square-meter airport operation security center will be separately located to the southwest of Guantian Road and Huanguan South Road, according to the plan.

The authority will display the detailed plan on the first floor of the office building of the planning commission, the office buildings of Longhua District Government and the district’s planning bureau, and Zhangkengjing Work Station of the Guanhu Subdistrict Office.

The public can also visit the official website, http://www.szpl.gov.cn, of the planning commission for details.

The public are advised to send their suggestions and opinions to the commission by June 7.

General aviation refers to civil aviation operations other than scheduled air services. General aviation covers a range of flight modes, from gliders and powered parachutes to corporate business jets.

General aviation covers a large range of activities, both commercial and noncommercial, including flying clubs, flight training, agricultural aviation, and light aircraft manufacturing and maintenance.

According to the city’s 13th five-year transportation plan, the city will speed up construction on the Zhangkengjing airport and complete the relocation of the Nantou Helicopter Airport in Nanshan District. After the Zhangkengjing airport is put into use, the helicopter base in Nantou will be relocated to Zhangkengjing.

The five-year plan also says Shenzhen is considering building a new airport in the east as well as Terminal 4 and a third runway at Shenzhen International Airport.

General aviation is one of the two wings of the civil aviation business, and plays an irreplaceable role in national economic and social construction. As of the end of 2010, there were 1,010 general aviation fleets in China, marking a year-on-year increase of 11.4 percent, according to a report by Qianzhan Business Information Co. Ltd. Industry Research Center.

General aviation is particularly popular in North America, with over 6,300 airports available for public use by pilots of general aviation aircraft (around 5,200 airports in the U.S. and over 1,000 in Canada). In comparison, scheduled flights operate from around 560 airports in the U.S. According to the U.S. Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, general aviation provides more than 1 percent of the United States’ GDP, accounting for 1.3 million jobs in professional services and manufacturing.(Han Ximin)
