A COUNCIL formed by over 10 child councilors held a discussion on the construction of a child-friendly park under the guidance of an adult recently. Suggestions like, “The park should be paved with rubber” and “The pool should be cleaned on a regular basis,” were put forward. The child councilors, aged 8 to 16, are all from Hongli Community, which is among the first batch of pilot communities for building child-friendly communities in the city. Although they are young, the children put forward more than 20 suggestions regarding facilities, safety management and services for the convenience of residents. Chen Yeling, who is responsible for the Shenzhen Women’s Social Organization Promotion Project, said that after the children’s council meeting, the suggestions will be submitted to the Hongli Community Work Station, as well as the Yuanlin Subdistrict Women’s Federation and CPC Work Committee, to realize the first step of blending children’s perspectives into community governance. This year, Shenzhen will build more than 10 child-friendly communities, and Futian Women’s Federation will promote the pilot work of the children’s council in the 10 subdistricts. (Chen Xiaochun) |
