2 sentenced

TWO people have been sentenced for killing a Mishmi takin, an endangered goat-antelope species, the authorities in Southwest China’s Yunnan Province said yesterday.

According to the People’s Court of Gongshan County, the two farmers used a gun to kill the animal and then fled the scene in August 2017. Authorities later found takin meat in their make-shift house.

Tomb raiders caught

Police in Northwest China’s Qinghai Province said they have detained five suspected tomb raiders and are attempting to locate eight missing cultural relics.

Of the five suspects, two were part of a grave robbery gang that was caught May 6. Qinghai police arrested 13 members of the gang in March over suspected illegal excavations in Dulan County on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Suspects detained

POLICE have detained two suspected drug traffickers and seized 42.6 kilograms of opium, authorities in the city of Tengchong, Southwest China’s Yunnan Province, said yesterday.

On April 30, police received information that several men were planning to transport drugs from a neighboring country into China. Police immediately set up an investigation team and dispatched officers to border areas.
