Friend scam

A MAN surnamed He in Guangming New Area was cheated out of 50,000 yuan (US$7,874) and had all of his cargo at a construction material market taken away by his business partner and friend, identified as Liu.

Following a two-week investigation after receiving the report from He on April 22, police seized Liu in Dongguan on May 7 for the contract scam.

Liu, 37, and He were business partners for years, but their shop selling construction materials was on the edge of bankruptcy. As Liu was heavily in debt, he decided to take a risk by signing a contract with others, although he knew he couldn’t fulfill the contract. Keeping He in the dark, Liu moved all of the cargo from the shop to pay off his debt.

Liu has been criminally detained.

Action on reselling

SHENZHEN’S market supervision authority launched an action in February to check on the collection and resale of liquor and cigarettes by roadside stores, convenient shops and stalls at markets. More than 2,700 such stores have been checked so far.

As cigarettes and liquor that the shop owners purchased privately couldn’t be proved to be genuine and had no certificates, the collection and resale of the products may pose food safety risks.

Pipeline construction

SHENZHEN has completed the construction of 464.8 kilometers of sewage pipelines so far this year, sources from the city’s environment protection authority said. The city plans to complete 2,353 kilometers of sewage pipelines this year.
