Mobile payment available on SZ-GZ trains

PASSENGERS can pay their train fares using their mobile phone after tying them to their China UnionPay cards for intercity trains between Shenzhen and Guangzhou starting yesterday.

Passengers need to register at the self-service machines at Shenzhen Railway Station with their China UnionPay cards and ID cards. Other photo IDs are also accepted. The system’s default setting charges a passenger for a second-class ticket. If passengers want first-class seats, they need to make up the balance with cash on the train.

After they scan in, either at Shenzhen Railway Station or Guangzhou Railway Station, the turnstiles will automatically print a receipt and send a text message to the passengers showing the departure times within 30 minutes, along with the train number and seat number. If tickets of trains leaving within 30 minutes have been sold out, the system will send information on the soonest available trains.

Passengers can also register on the “云闪付” app to check for available trains.

To exit their destination station passengers have their mobile phones scanned at the turnstiles and the system will deduct the fare from their bank account.

The system will save passengers about 15 minutes as they don’t need to line up to buy tickets, sources from Guangzhou Railway Group Corp. said.

The payment for entering, taking trains and leaving the destination railway station is valid within three hours.

If the passenger wants to cancel a trip after scanning to get into the waiting hall, they need to go to a counter at the ticket office to get a refund for the ticket.

If a trip is canceled within an hour, the system will deduct the fare according to the cost to the nearest station to the departing station along the Guangzhou-Shenzhen line.

If a trip is canceled between one and three hours, the system will deduct the fare according to the cost to the farthest station on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen line.

If the passenger cancels the trip after three hours, the full fare will be deducted.

If the passenger can’t pay the fare when they exit the station, they can show their ID to railway station employees, who will check the commuting record.

If the passenger only has a record of entering a railway station and has no record of leaving after all train service has closed for the day, the system will deduct the fare according to the cost of the trip.

If the passenger has no record, the system will deduct the fare for the whole line.

Passengers can also print their latest 10 commuting records from the past 90 days as receipts for reimbursement. Repetitive printing is not allowed.

However, the railway authority has reminded passengers to purchase tickets on the ticket website www.12306.cn in advance of the travel peaks on weekends and holidays.
