Yellow alert

SHENZHEN Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow alert yesterday, as the hot weather continues in the city.

The maximum temperature in Shenzhen reached more than 35 degrees Celsius over the weekend, and the alert will last for about three to four days. The observatory reminded residents to avoid spending long periods outdoors.

Scam ring busted

SHATOUJIAO Police Station in Yantian District recently busted a telecommunications scam ring.

Thirteen ring members have been arrested, and 23 have been criminally detained.

A resident in Luohu surnamed Li participated in a QQ group studying stock trading and later opened a new stock trading account connected to his bank account following persuasion from a customer service agent introduced to him by the QQ group leader.

After Li transferred about 20,000 yuan (US$3,136) to his account, he was instructed by the customer service agent on how to trade. However, within an hour, he found there was only about 10,000 yuan left in his account.

Li felt he had been cheated and reported the case to the police.
