WE have seen action taken by traffic police against food delivery staff who do not abide by traffic rules. Recently, I saw a driver of a public bus trying to make a left turn, and by doing so blocking the road for a blue bus that was trying to go straight. The public bus should have given the right of way according to traffic rules. However, the driver insisted that the blue bus back up to let him go, resulting in a stand-off and the road blockage. This behavior is very common in Shenzhen and often worsens traffic jams. It would be appreciated if the traffic police could start an education program and crack down on this type of misbehavior. Police could also launch a re-education program since many of the bus drivers think they are invincible with their big buses and that everybody should give way when they are around. Also, when picking up or dropping off passengers they should stop in the designated bus bay instead of remaining in the motorist lane and blocking traffic.
