Swinging hook kills driver in accident
    2018-05-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A CONCRETE mixer truck driver was killed and a pedestrian was injured by a hook that was swinging from a crane truck traveling in the opposite direction on Xiufeng Road in Jihua Subdistrict, Longgang District, on Sunday, Chinese-language media reported yesterday.

A video clip provided by Shenzhen traffic police on its official WeChat account showed the crane truck was turning as a man riding a bike and the mixer truck were traveling down the road.

The swinging hook knocked the bicycle rider to the ground, and then swung farther into the cabin of the mixer truck. The mixer truck driver lost control and ran over the bicycle rider before flipping over.

Luckily the bicycle rider surnamed Zhang was only slightly injured, but the mixer truck driver surnamed Xie died at the scene.

A police investigation showed the crane truck driver surnamed Zhang was on his way back to his company. He had forgotten to fix the hook to the truck, although he had switched off the arm.

According to the relevant rules, the crane and its hook should be firmly fixed to the truck.

Zhang is fully responsible for the accident.

The case is still under investigation. (Han Ximin)
