19 extra-curricular education bases unveiled in Dapeng
    2018-05-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

An initiation ceremony for 19 quality extra-curricular education bases was held at Dapeng Central Primary School on May 16. That day, five base managers who are passionate about youth education were given the honorary title of special vice principal of the new facilities, and 12 professionals were deemed extra-curricular activities counselors.

The extra-curricular education bases cover five main categories, namely science, patriotism, life skills, marine environmental protection and labor.

Positioned to become an “eco-island, bio-island, island of life and world-class coastal ecological tourist resort,” Dapeng New Area is an ecological base, a cultural cradle and an energy-strategic location of Shenzhen.

Dapeng is home to the city’s only national key cultural relics protection unit (Dapeng Fortress), the city’s only national geo-park (Dapeng Peninsular Geopark), and the future growth pole, the Shenzhen International Bio-Valley Baguang Core Zone.

Additionally, Qiniang Mountain, Shenzhen’s second-highest mountain and rich in animal and plant resources, also sits in Dapeng. The area also has four dense coral reef systems. The Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other important institutions and projects are also based in Dapeng.

“Since 2017, we have started to integrate all the social resources we have in Dapeng for education. And we have found out that the social resources here cover multiple areas including national defense, science and technology, geology, astronomy, ocean, zoology, humanity and labor, all of which serve as a solid foundation for extra-curricular education for our students,” said Chen Malin, director of the Bureau of Public Utilities of Dapeng New Area.
