A LOCAL prosecutor Monday charged a knife attack suspect with intentional homicide as the death toll in the attack on middle school students rose to nine in Northwest China’s Shaanxi Province.

The Yulin Municipal People’s Procuratorate initiated public prosecution with the city’s Intermediate People’s Court against Zhao Zewei on charges of intentional homicide.

Zhao allegedly attacked 19 students near the No. 3 Middle School in Mizhi County at

6:10 p.m. April 27. By Monday, nine of the students had died and another 10 remained hospitalized.

Zhao, 28, was detained by the police in the evening on the same day of the attack. He has been identified as a local man in Mizhi. No details on a motive for the attack have been made available.
