Directors shine at Shenzhen Futian High School
    2018-05-30  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

福田中学举行第五届微电影节颁奖典礼

The Shenzhen Futian High School Fifth Micro Film Festival awards ceremony was held on May 18. Winners of 12 awards including the Microfilm Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards, Best Actor and Actress, and Best Director awards were announced.

“Having been held for five years, the Micro Film Festival is becoming a name card for the school,” said Wang Dejiu, head of Shenzhen Futian High School.

Liu Zicong, a Class 14 Grade 13 student who won the best director award last year, has received the most attention. The short film “Mei” he directed won the best visual effect title this year. The movie tells the story of a girl who can see and hear things that people are not aware of. She suffers from school violence because of her special ability and she is finally saved by a ghost.

The judges think Liu perfectly handle the colors, sounds and composition of pictures. The cool color, reddish sense of danger and the supernatural setting all bring a wonderful visual feast to the audience.

There is a scene in the movie in which the heroine walks past two opposite mirrors, and the mirrors reflect her. “This creates a supernatural feeling and promotes the plot,” said Liu Zicong, adding that this is a technique he used: Bold pictures are used to shock people’s feeling. He is also gradually learning to use the lines to promote the development of the plot.

“The Micro Film Festival is a beacon to me to develop my passion for film,” said Liu. After the college entrance examination, he will be director of a sci-fi action movie.

“Students’ enthusiasm for participating in and producing movies has become higher and higher,” said Liu Zhenzhen, teacher of the school’s media group who put forward the idea of holding a film festival and received support from the school. “Now students have strong hands-on skills. From only using mobile phones, students are growing to use scientific and technological methods such as SLR, drones and software.”

Shenzhen Futian High School established the first batch of Campus Film Studios in Shenzhen and is the first school in Shenzhen with a National University Student Culture Quality Education Base by the Communication University of China.
