China calls for positive steps to promote personnel exchanges
    2018-06-01  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

CHINA and the United States should take positive measures to provide convenience for personnel exchanges between the two countries.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying made the remarks at a daily press briefing Wednesday when responding to reports on U.S. scheduled limits on some Chinese student visas.

The U.S. Government announced plans to tighten visas issued to some Chinese students starting June 11, several media outlets in the United States reported Tuesday.

Under the new policy, Chinese graduate students studying high-tech manufacturing, robotics or aviation will receive one-year visas, while other Chinese citizens will have to get clearance from “multiple U.S. agencies” if they are employed by certain companies listed by the U.S. Commerce Department, the Associated Press reported, citing an unnamed U.S. official.

Hua said that personnel exchanges are important foundations for cooperation between various countries, including China and the United States.

Hua said that visa facilitation between China and the United States served the common interests of the two peoples and was reciprocal and mutually beneficial.

“Both countries should adopt more positive policies to facilitate personnel exchanges and make better conditions for cooperation between the two countries instead of acting in the opposite way,” Hua said.
