A Guangzhou citizen, surnamed Yin, shows her son’s electronic birth certificate, the first one of this kind on the Chinese mainland, which was released yesterday by the authorities in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province. Starting yesterday, Guangzhou parents can apply for newborn babies’ birth certificates via WeChat’s mini app. Once an infant’s information is verified online, the parents can make an appointment to fetch the paper certificate and also get an electronic one in WeChat’s Cards & Offers.
