排遣式进食
    2018-06-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

“排遣” means “to dispel (usually loneliness),” “式” means “style,” and “进食” means “to take in food.” This term, coined by netizens jokingly, refers to the scenario where a person takes in food not because they are hungry, but because, in their own words, “their mouth feels lonely.”

Example:

A: 吃完午饭才一个小时,你怎么又在吃蛋糕?

Chīwán wǔfàn cái yīgè xiǎoshí,nǐ zěnme yòu zài chī dàngāo?

You just ate your lunch an hour ago. Why are you eating cake now?

B: 我不饿,就是排遣式进食。

Wǒ bú è,jiùshì páiqiǎn shì jìnshí。

I’m not hungry, I just want to occupy my mouth with food.

A: 小心这样容易长胖。

Xiǎoxīn zhèyàng róngyì zhǎngpàng。

Beware of the danger of putting on weight if you keep eating while not hungry.
