School children get close to traditional opera
    2018-06-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

PEKING opera artists gathered in Futian District to bring traditional Chinese opera to children May 25. The opening ceremony of the second “Gathering in Futian: Traditional Opera Enters Schools” project was unveiled at Futian Conference Hall.

Peking Opera artists, including Qiu Shi from Jingju Theater Company of Beijing, Bai Zexi from Jingju Theater of Weihai of Shandong, Wang Hongguang and Yang Bingbing, two top-notch national actors, came to show the display of Chinese opera before children.

A total of 700 teachers and students attended the opening ceremony and during the opening performance, several acts won the applause of audience members, including modern Peking operas “Defeat the Tiger on the Mountain” and “The Fourth Son of the Yang Family Visits His Mother” performed by Qiu, traditional Peking opera “Qin Xianglian” performed by Bai and Peking opera performances given by Futian Lianhua Primary School and Futian Qiaoxiang Foreign Language School.

The “Gathering in Futian: Traditional Opera Enters Schools” program was initially launched in 2017, and 43 performances were given to schools in three months last year. More than 30,000 students enjoyed the excellent opera performances for free.

From May 29, Futian District will continue to make efforts to organize opera artists to give performances in schools.

School children can get access to performances, lectures and interest groups so as to attain a deeper understanding of the charm of traditional Chinese culture.

The activity aims to stimulate children’s enthusiasm for inheriting traditional Chinese values. (A Ding)
