Ask for the moon 非分之想
    2018-06-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A: Sophie was not quite her usual happy self this week. Do you know what happened?

B: She went to talk with the boss Monday, asking for a two-week holiday.

A: And the boss said no?

B: Of course he said no. She’s asking for the moon at this time of the year, when everyone is busy handling the June 18 sales!

Note: Everybody knows that the moon is a celestial body, which you have no chance of keeping for yourself. Even ancient people could understand how out of reach it was. This idiom means to “make outlandish requests or demands for something, such as a lot of money or special privileges.” It’s often used in continuous tenses.
