Tourism train to Kashgar sets off
    2018-06-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A TOURISM passenger train to Kashgar, in Northwest China’s Xinjiang, left Shenzhen on Saturday carrying 600 travelers on a 16-day trip that will cover 5,000 kilometers one way.

This was the first poverty-relief train sent to Kashgar from Shenzhen this year.

The operation of the tourism train, which is named Shenxin (a portmanteau of Shenzhen and Xinjiang), was jointly initiated by several supporting agencies — the Shenzhen Counterpart Aid Work Commanding Office in Xinjiang, Kashgar and Shenzhen tourism bureaus, Shenzhen Travel Association and the Guangzhou Railway Group Corp.

Along the route, the train will pass by historical sites and cultural relics, and stop at well-known tourist cities and towns, giving tourists a chance to visit Longman Grottoes in Henan Province, Turpan Basin and Mt. Huoyan (the Mountain of Flames), said to be China’s hottest place, in Xinjiang, as well as the famous seven-colored Danxia Landform in Zhangye and the Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang in Gansu Province.

The tourists on the train will also visit Kashgar, a AAAAA-rated ancient town, and they can visit the Shenzhen City and Shenzhen Industrial Park that Shenzhen has helped build in Kashgar.

Along the way, travelers will attend a photography contest and morning exercise, as well as pottery making, chess and card playing activities.

The trip was organized by Guangdong Railway Youth International Travel Service, Eachtravel Shenzhen and Shenzhen Port China Travel Service. It is part of Shenzhen’s efforts to support the development of tourism and the economy in Xinjiang.

The organizer will operate two other tourism trains to Xinjiang in July and September.

The Kashgar tourism train was first launched in Shenzhen in 2017.
