Couplets show ancient charm
    2018-06-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A TOTAL of 100 couplets featuring Chinese calligraphy by 100 calligraphers and retired government officials were exhibited in Bao’an District on June 6 as part of the current series of events for Culture and Natural Heritage Day.

Under the theme of “Ancient Bao’an — A Shared Homeland,” this exhibition featured 100 invaluable couplets. These couplets originate from 1978 and earlier and were hung on each side of the gates of historical sites in Bao’an, including at ancestral temples, schools and mansions.

Deng Shaoling, head of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of Bao’an District, said that the couplets on display expressed various themes such as merits and virtues, family roots, authors’ feelings towards beautiful sceneries, education, and more.

These couplets not only stand for the spirit of Bao’an and the talents and personalities of the Bao’an people, but also represent Bao’an’s history as a district enjoying a long lasting heritage.

The bureau will also compile the displayed works into a collection which will be donated to Bao’an Museum as records of Bao’an history and culture. (Yang Mei)
